Tasks

  • Der Lehrstuhl III für Mathematik ist Teil des Institutes für Angewandte Mathematik der Fakultät für Mathematik an der TU Dortmund. Er wird geleitet von Prof. Dr. Turek und befaßt sich schwerpunktmäßig mit der numerischen Simulation von partiellen Differentialgleichungen auf der Basis von finiten Elementen. Research interests

  • Der Lehrstuhl für Angewandte Mathematik und Numerik (LS3) der Fakultät für Mathematik der TU Dortmund beschäftigt sich unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Stefan Turek hauptsächlich mit Numerik für Partielle Differentialgleichungen (PDEs), High Performance Computing und Wissenschaftlichem Rechnen, vor allem mit Anwendung in den Ingenieurwissenschaften (Strömungsmechanik, Strukturmechanik).
  • Auf mathematischer Seite untersuchen wir Finite Elemente Diskretisierungen, mit speziellen Anpassungen für Konvektions-Diffusions Gleichungen und Sattelpunktprobleme wie beispielsweise die inkompressiblen Navier-Stokes Gleichungen. Darüberhinaus gilt unser Hauptinteresse der Konzeption und Realisierung von schnellen Lösern vom Typ Mehrgitter, Gebietszerlegung und unserer speziellen Variante ScaRC.
  • Neben diesen mathematischen Arbeiten legen wir großen Wert auf die Entwicklung von hocheffizienter FEM-Software, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von hardware-orientierten numerischen Ansätzen. Aktuell arbeiten wir an der Nachfolgersoftware unserer älteren Pakete FEAT2D/3D und FEATFLOW im Rahmen des FEAST Projektes, um damit ein neues High Performance FEM Tool zu generieren.
  • Solch hochoptimierte Software wird von mir und meinen - auch internationalen - Mitarbeitern verwendet, um komplexe Probleme der Strömungsmechanik mit industriellem Hintergrund zu lösen. Die Modellierung erfolgt zumeist auf der Basis von Varianten der inkompressiblen Navier-Stokes Gleichungen mit speziellen Erweiterungen wie beispielsweise nichtlinearer Viskosität (granular, nicht-newtonsch, viskoelastisch), Fluid-Struktur Wechselwirkung, Mehrphasenströmung mit chemischer Reaktion, freien Randwertproblemen mit Erstarrungsvorgängen, etc., die auch in direkten Industrieprojekten verwendet werden.
